Guide to Midsummer Festival
We asked for a festival with a lot of quests and we got it! Midsummer has at least 30 available quests and the rewards are reasonably priced so you can get something good your first day. This is a short tour of what’s available and how to navigate all the quests. I had a few tokens at the start of the day (less than 10) and I ended with 87. There are a LOT of things you can get for 80 tokens. Cosmetics are 10 each, pets for 20, mounts and war-steed tack for 25 or less, instruments, fireworks and emotes, pages of housing items at reasonable barter rates, and an essence reclamation scroll for 60 tokens. Feredis, the Barter-Matron is next to Merilien in the Citadel.
You can get to Minas Tirith (Midsummer) from all the major travel hubs including Michel Delving, Thorin’s Gate, South Bree, Galtrev and Minas Tirith. If you haven’t yet attended the great wedding (Epic Volume V, Book 9), you’ll be guided to the top of Minas Tirith to talk to King Elessar (Aragorn). Take a stable horse to the High Stables to get to the Citadel. Follow the Epic through to the end of the banquet. Once you finish the quest line in the Merethrond Banquet Hall, you can talk to the doorkeeper, Toldir, to pick up one Banquet quest per day. These quests have a deed attached – A Feast of Fellowship – and you should do each quest once until you finish the deed, which rewards you with 9 tokens. There’s a great guide to these quests at FibroJedi.
The Midsummer quests are made much easier if you know how to use your keyboard shortcuts for Select Next Item (Get), Select Next NPC (Tap) and Use Selection (Use). If you’re new to the city, use Get to find doors, hooks and items. These shortcuts can be found or set up using Ctrl O and looking at the Keymapping tab. Use the search box at the top to find them. (I used Next and Use in the search.)
So, on your arrival at Minas Tirith (Midsummer), talk to Faeleth by the Stable-master to pick up your wrapper quests.
Enter the City Stables, talk to Loboris and Aid the Stable Hands. The items you need are in the back right corner of the stable. Use Get to find the horses.
Leave the stable and use the Stable-master outside to go to the High Stables. You don’t have to go all the way to the stable, dismount as soon as you complete the port, turn around and go around the wall on the right, up the ramps to the Citadel.
Talk to Merilien and pick up 6 quests. Go south past the stairs to Othnoron and pick up his quest. Continue past the guesthouse, almost to Frodo and Sam, and look in the nook on the left to get two quests from the Florist.
If you’ve finished the Epic, go into Merethrond, talk to Toldir and pick up a quest from one of the attendees (most are at the high table). I haven’t included those quests in this guide but some of them can be completed in Merethrond or the Citadel and two can be continued during this guide.
I haven’t included the firefly quests because they require leaving Midsummer and have to be done at night.
You can get to the Ruby flies by going to Michel Delving or Nobottle and then swift to Needlehole.
The Sapphires are the easiest to find by swifting to Duillond from Michel Delving or Nobottle.
The Amethysts are probably the hardest. You’ll need to go to Duillond and then ride north to the Grimwater.
The Emerald flies are also a long ride, either from Bree or from the Forgotten Inn. (You can port to Ost Guruth, swift to Candaith’s Encampment and then swift to Forgotten Inn. I prefer this route.)
For the most part, you’ll be traveling down the ramps to each tier to pick up and finish the quests.
Leave the Citadel and go to the High Hall on the Master’s Tier (first door on the right after the ramp). Talk to Ioreth and help her tidy up. Hint: The revellers rez very quickly and you can talk to one multiple times.
Leave the High Hall, turn right, and go down the ramp to the Sage’s Tier, all the way to the southwest end and enter the Thirsty Seer. On entering, turn right, then left and enter the second alcove. (Use Get at the second turn).
Leave the inn and go to the House of Lore (first door on the left). There are four floral arrangements in the first room. Go up the stairs to the right and turn right in the room after Lirveril. Talk to Colladan and use Tap to find the notes. There are a couple on the ground floor but you can get what you need on the second floor. In the room after Colladan, find two more floral arrangement hooks. [Use Get to find items for Frodo’s quest here or in the Blue Theater.]
Leave the house (stairs are on the north side and door is across from them). Turn left and go back up the ramp and swift to the Sage’s Tier. Turn north and go to Daghir at the end of the tunnel. Turn south and the rest of the samples are delivered to NPCs on this tier with 4 on the left side of the road and one on the right – watch your radar for the quest rings.
After delivering all the samples continue to the end of the tier and enter the Blue Theater. Pick up a quest from Duillam and find the band members. Each NPC has three places he or she can be. There are two hobbits, two dwarves, a man and an elf maiden. Use your Tap to find them as you go around the theater. Some of the band members are upstairs. There are three floral arrangements on the center stage. [Use Get to find items for Frodo’s quest here or in the House of Lore.]
Leave the theater and go back to the Stable-master and swift to the Soldier’s Tier. Talk to Borlach in front of you and get his quest. Take a horse back to the Players Tier, dismount ASAP and down the ramp to the Craftsmen’s Tier. Keep going that direction to talk to Ciriel – twice. Pick up her goodies and start using Get to find your Wedding supplies. Follow the trail of wedding supplies and Hungry Guards to the southwest. If you can’t find all the wedding supplies, get them on the return trip.
The Merry Swan is on the right after a nice garden area. Go into the Swan and all the way to the back for two floral arrangements. Use Get to find the Barrel of Ale on the west side.
Leave the inn and follow the tier past Ciriel (pick up wedding supplies if you missed any). Feed two more Hungry Guards. Turn around and go back to Ciriel to turn in her quest then about-face and up the ramp to the Player’s Tier and go back to the Craftsmen’s Tier.
Turn around and go down the ramp to talk to Lebadar twice. Go north a short distance to Worried Woman for another quest. Turn around beside her (facing due south) and wait for the hound that comes to you from the green across the way. Turn in your quest.
Go back up the ramp, around the fountain and turn right into an alley. Enter the House of Craft on your left. Talk to the Postmaster and, if you’re doing the crafting quest, talk to Melthend. You can buy recipes from Melthend but be sure to only buy the one you need. (You get the recipe ingredients from the local fest quests in Duillond, Thorin’s, Bree and the Party Tree.)
Leave the house and talk to the Potter on your left. Turn left and follow the tier all the way to the north end – Egalmoth’s Green – to do your gardening. Hint: there are three plants against the south wall. Go back to the ramp and down to the Soldier’s Tier to talk to Lebadar.
Go back up the ramp and use Stable-master to go to the Soldier’s Tier. Talk to Borlach.
Turn left and follow the tier all the way to the southwest end. Enter the Mumak and Keep and go straight back to get the ale. Leave the inn and go to the Splintered Shield a short distance east. As you enter, turn left up the stairs and talk to Ulthir at the top for a quest. There is one musician near him on that floor, one on the stairs, one at the bottom of the stairs. Another musician is by the fireplace. Go past her, down and up the steps, enter the room on the left and use Tap to select the musician upstairs then Use him (or go up the stairs on the right).
Go back out the door, turn right, down the steps, turn left into the cellar. Use the musician and get the Barrel of Ale. Hop over the table and start tasting wines. It’s a random thing. Turn off floaty names (N) if you have trouble selecting the wines. I have the most luck with the glasses on the right (west) side of the table. Turn around and get the Barrel of Wine. Hop the table, turn left, left again. Go up the stairs to talk to Ulthir and back down the stairs, turn right and leave the inn.
Go around the wall on your left and head back to the Stable-master. Use the Stable-master to go to the City Stables. If you’ve followed this guide, you can turn in your daily wrapper quest.
Turn around and go south to the Old Guest House. [Talk to Gelwin for Pippin’s quest.] Tap the Florist’s Daughter to get her quest. She runs around very quickly. There are four flowers near her and keep going south to get the rest. Go back and talk to the daughter then Use the blanket to make the crowns.
Head north to the City Stables to catch a cab back to the High Stables. Dismount quickly and turn around and go to the House of Remedies (2nd door on the right). There are two healers on the left (south) side of the house and more on the north side. They move around and visit rooms, use your Tap to find them.
Leave the house (the door is on the east side). Turn left and go back up the ramps to the Citadel. Talk to Merilien, Othnoron and the Florist. If you completed your Merethrond quest, turn it in.
Go down the ramps from the Citadel and turn left into the tunnel to get to the High Stables. Go to the Craftsmen’s Tier and back into the House of Crafts to talk to the Postmaster.
That’s the end of the Minas Tirith quests except for the fireflies. When you’re looking for the hooks to place the firefly lanterns, use Get.
Local Quests
Bree-land – take the Festival horse to the Festival Grounds and enter the horse race. Go back to the West Gate, head west and talk to Rona Turner at the oven. Continue west to the Prancing Pony and talk to Barliman. Mugs and Revellers are all over the inn but you can get what you need pretty quickly.
Leave the inn and go south to find Maud Tatter near the Bree-Town Hall. Continue to and through the South Gate. Continue that direction to the willow tree on the other side of the pond. One of the willow branches doesn’t work for me but you only need three. Go back to the West Gate and go north to find 4 cut logs outside the town. Hop the creek to get two more pine logs. Go north past Dogwood’s Farm and cross the little bridge to get your clay near Thornley’s Worksite. Return to Bree and talk to Rona.
Thorin’s Hall – use the side door to go to the Festival Arena, turn around and go into the Inn. Talk to Skori the barber then go just into the tunnel to the left to shine a beard. There are four Unkempt Dwarves inside the Inn and others scattered about the hall, they rez quickly. Go into the tunnel to the right and go around to the forges, shining beards if you need them. Go all the way to the back of the Forging Hall to talk to Slagin.
Return to the front of Thorin’s Hall, go outside and head down the stairs toward the Silver Deep Mine in the east. Wildcats and/or aurochs provide you with 2 bones along the way. Enter the mine for the necessary items. Return to Skori and Slagin.
Duillond – take a stable horse to Celondim and talk to Gairil on the middle dock. Head for Duillond but turn left onto the road to Lamael’s Vinyard to find the beeswax.
Continue to Duillond and find Celairel at the dance area. Go north to find Thorian at the workbench. Go around to the east side of town to find the silk on a porch near a vendor. Go back to Thorian and use the table to make ribbons 5 times. Talk to Thorian. Dringlaer, is near you on the other side of a wall. You must go to both areas to get flowers. Go past Thorian and onto the hill for the first 2 flowers then down the steps on the right for more. Follow the road north then turn left to find the rest of the flowers near the rez ring. Talk to Thorian and use the table to make the cords. Return to Celairel and Gairil.
Michel Delving – on arriving at MD, follow the road east and up the hill near Graland Whitfoot. At the top of the first part of the hill, the road curves right. Continue in that direction to get to the racetrack. Make your way to the Party Tree and talk to Vinca Pott (a Troublesome Tween) and the Sneaky Hobbit lass. There is a Troublesome Hobbit up near Lobelia, one near the tavern kegs, one near Gaffer Gamgee. One walks the road that goes into the farming area and another is just south of that on the main road. Three more Troublesome Hobbits can be found around the outside of the Ivy Bush. Return to the Sneaky Hobbit.
